Here’s an old postcard view from the past. This card from the late 1940s shows the Dougall Road Motel. The Motel was located on Dougall Ave. near the 3rd concession, long lost under the expressway entrance ramps.
Hope everyone enjoys the holiday.

My family, ‘The Skally’s’ bought the Dougall Road Motel in November of 1950.
At the time, there was my dad ‘William (Bill)Skally’, my mother ‘Katie Skally’, my younger
brother ‘Morris Skally’ and myself, ‘Walter Skally’. My wife ‘Mary’ joined the business
in October of 1958.
There were 10 motel units and we added 4 more.
In 1950, rooms were rented at $2.50 and $3.00 (no tax on rooms at that time!)
There was a ‘Cities Service’ gas station with 3 pumps. Two green pumps for ‘Regular’ and one
red pump for ‘Premium’ gas. Our price for ‘Regular’ gas was 37 1/2 cents per gallon. We always remained 2 cents below the competition!
The ‘Snack Bar’ was located at the front of the property.
We added the ‘Ice Machine’ sometime in the 50’s. The machine produced blocks of ice that
came out on a conveyor belt. This postcard brought back some wonderful memories!
Thanks for the info, Walter!
