Here’s a pair of old postcards, I’ve been meaning to post for a while.
This one is looking south on Chilver from Niagara. That’s the Willistead Park fence on the left. This one is from John Stefani’s personal collection.
This one is the DUR station in Tecumseh. It is from the Bernie Drouillard Collection, I’m not sure where this was. Was/is this the station that is now at Heritage Village?
Have a great weekend everyone, see you Monday.
Sooner or later someone will point out that the postcard says “Victoria Road” – not Chilver. Although I’m sure Andrew knows, for those who don’t, Chilver road was known as Victoria road prior to Walkerville being annexed by Windsor.
This is one of my favorite postcards, partly because you can stand on that corner and look at that view today and so little has changed since that postcard was made.
The Tecumseh postcar – is it possible that it was a hand coloured photograph taken from atop the st.annes church steeple? I’m not familiar with a DUR station. What would have been the route of that streetcar in the image?
Until such time as Bernie weighs in on that, Fausto, you can find alot by using Google and searching with the term “Detroit United Railway”. Quite a bit on the web about it, and more pictures, including info on how it ties in with SW&A.
I think Fausto is right, that this is Lesperance just north of Tecumseh Rd. (which would be in extreme lower left). This is the same picture as the centre one of a three picture panorama on the town of Tecumseh website (under history). I also think the station under question is in the picture to the right of this one. By the way, very cool.
Learn something new every day. I didn’t know the Detroit United Railway owned the Sandwitch, Windsor and Amherstburg. Did so from 1901 to 1920.
Don’t know if you’ve seen this site, but it’s an interesting history of transit in Canada

Doug, neither did I.
It’s always great when you learn something new…
The DUR station in Tecumseh was on the north side of the CNR tracks (where Shopper Drugs stands today), was for the Windsor – Tecumseh Railway. It ran over some of the SW&A track in Windsor, along north side of Wyandotte St. to Isabelle where it went on its own right of way to Riverdale acrossed Little River and stayed on the south side of the canal. The canal was south of Riverside Drive (the canal was between the tracks and Riverside Dr. It ran along this canal until it got to Lesperance Rd. where it turned south along Lesperance on the west side with an ditch between them, up to the CNR/GTR tracks where this station was and the tracks looped around the station. When the street cars stopped running tyhe station building was sold and moved.
Don’t know if the DUR station still exists, but according to the Ensisting Stations of Ontario website, the CNR/GTR station, built in 1901 is at Heritage Village in Harrow.
that’s “Existing” stations of Ontario…..
I’m positive the white house North of the station is still there….. I think it is or was a gift store or therapy place at one time…. I think some of the brown sheds or barns may still be back behind there as well…….. the house in the foreground is now the Winks….. I love trying to figure these types of pics out…lets see more!
Yup, I think Sammy Hain is right. It looks like the white house just northwest of the station is still there. It`s been expanded heavily since then.
The house at the top right just north of the tracks is still there I believe. If I am correct, the building was renovated and moved a block north and was Blackies convenience at one point and is now a Wine shop. The building was also merged with an American Foursquare house at some point, and has some interesting Tudor elements to it. Another very interesting point, I did some further investigation of the immediate area and found that the little brown shed to the left of the picture, just north of the tracks is still there. It is now being used as part of the Bosco Stone Manufacturing building if I am correct. Not only that, but just south of the tracks, the white building is standing as well, though in terrible condition. It is hidden behind the building currently fronting Tecumseh Road just to the West of Macs and is being used by Gerrys Taxi.
