Looking through some old photos I had, I came across these. This was when the old Forest Furniture on the S.W. corner of Ottawa & Pierre Streets, had just closed.
The building was being gutted, and for a brief time the orignal 1950’s decor became exposed before the Stucco went up.
Today the building is stll standing and is a restaurant.
What a great catch! You really have to be watching and ready with your camera at all times to get shots like this. I think you also managed to catch the original exterior of the CAW hall on Ottawa street while being “modernized”.
Sometimes you’re in the right place at the right time, too bad they were shot with my massive 1.3 megapixel digital. 🙂
I do have some shots of the old CAW in mid “renovation”. I’ll post some later in the week.
Stucco is the new vinyl, man! 🙂

What’s wrong with stucco? It doesn’t make a building look cheap like vinyl. It looks expensive and it doesn’t really take away from the history of the building in most cases. It gives that nice 500 year old Spanish villa or Venetian look. It fits in with cottage tudor architecture. It fits in with art deco. Vinyl looks like crap on an old building because it forces new technology on an old building in a time when vinyl siding didn’t exist causing the building to loose it’s historical charm. It adds an R value of 11-16. It has no thermal breaks in it like vinyl (because vinyl needs to deal with expansion and contraction). And, reading about the technology today, it lasts a really long time. http://www.eima.com/
