So I’m just messing around with HDR. I think I’ve finally got a little grasp of the whole process….
The photo above is my house. The scaffolding is up, and that means scraping and painting, and cleaning out and stabilizing rotted wood… What a joyous treat. I think it’s been about 25 years since anyone did anything in the way of maintenace to the front facade. The lower bay is the current project, then the windows on the second floor above the bay. The porch is next summers project, although an emergency stabilization is in order for this fall.

How old is your house? When was it built?
Rotting wood…well, at least it’s real wood siding….ah, old buildings, materials of a quality you can’t find anymore….great until you have to replace them…
The house was built in 1891. It was built by a man named Charles R. Cole who was a City Alderman and also at one point was the Water Comissioner of Windsor. All in all, it’s not too bad for suffering the years of neglect it did. I have some photos I found at the library of it from the early 1980’s if your interested in seeing them. The house spent the mid 1950’s until the late 1970’s as a rooming house. Lucky that it even survived.

I found an old photo today I wanted to send to you to see if you can get more detail than I did. I will scan it at 1200dpi for you. It’s an old black and white from the 50s I think.. It’s of divers standing on the windsor side of the river. One of the divers has Inter Lake Divers on his shirt, with Windsor at the bottom of it and a number. I’m going to post it on my site if you want to see it.

Hi, my name is Chad and I’m an Urban Studies Major with a focus on HIstoric Preservation at CSU in Cleveland, Ohio. I just want to say thank you for this site. Its something I always enjoy looking at and the stories and photo’s are awesome. I admire what your doing and hope you continue doing it. And btw, GREAT HOUSE!!! I can completely relate to you in the respect that my mother and I lived in her grandparents home for awhile and it was in simulair shape. Old home are beautiful, but their ALOT of work. Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I grew up in the house next door. (the green one on the left of the photo. My parents purchased that home in the late 60’s and we sold it in 95 or 96.
So it’s pretty cool to see your site because I do remember playing inside your house and thinking back it had a lot of characater. I’m sure you have extenxive renovations to do because I recall the number of people coming and going from that place and I am really surprised to see that it has held up considerably. Good luck with the renovations…..
