This photo above ran in the Border Cities Star on June 29, 1935:
- Above picture shows one of a fleet of 15 new palatial highway parlor coaches of modern streamline design. These coaches were upholstered, painted and letter by the Lang & Jewell Body Service, main plant, on Howard avenue. A force of 30 skilled artisans derived steady employment for the period of 10 weeks in the execution of this work. Lang & Jewell are celebrating their 15th anniversary in business on July 1, which synchronizes with the birthday of Greater Windsor.
Have a great weekend everyone! See you back here Monday.
What happened to this business, was it to specialized to survive World War 2?
I have never heard of this place, ever! It’s always so nice to uncover a piece of history in Windsor. I wonder where on Howard?? Perhaps the building is still there in some semblance? Thanks for the treasured find Andrew!
A January 1935 advertisement in “The Kingsville Reporter” listed the address as 1047 Howard Avenue. Unless the street numbering system has been altered since then, it might have been where a present day empty lot appears just south of Erie St.
A June 1941 advertisement in the same Kingsville paper has it located at 671 Wyandotte St. E.
