For those readers who, like me, are fans of the great photo website Shorpy, you may be interested in viewing the collection of the Detroit Publishing Company, which resides at the Library of Congress.
The DPC collection is amazing, and mostly royalty free… You’ll see greedy sellers on eBay reselling prints of images that are available for free.
The photo above of the distillery was shot c. 1911 and, is available for viewing in a few different sizes on the L.O.C. site.
The details in the old glass plate negatives are just amazing, and that photo created the postcard seen above, printed by the Detroit Publishing Company. Interesting that the artist took the liberty of adding a ship to the river above the distillery office. Must not have been busy looking enough on the river…
That site you linked http://www.loc.gov/pictures is awesome. You can search Windsor, Ontario and get some nice pictures. Thanks for the site.
Bruce, I agree! Awesome links! Keep up the great posts)
Can you give some more information on this building? When did it get torn down, etc?
