I found myself on the far west side last night, and near the charred remains of the Windsor Raceway. It burned down last week in the middle of demolition, now all that remains is a mess of rubble. Another long time Windsor fixture sent packing to the trash heap of history.
This is the result of the Ontario Liberals killing the harness racing industry, and taking the slots away from Windsor. The province takes away jobs from the city with highest unemployment in Ontario. O yeah I forgot Ontario ends at London.
there sure has been a lot of ‘racing’ history in Windsor, none of it lasts. When will they learn? Too bad about this building though, I remember all the pomp on the opening day. Yes Ontario does seem to end at London. All the old ‘service centres’ along highway 401, had maps for the tourists to find their way…well, those maps showed London as the last noted city for southwestern Ontario. the The next city, where the name Windsor should have been, was Detroit! Go figure! I, for one….LOVE Windsor! It’s where I was born and raised.
I remember growing up on Matchette, and seeing traffic lined up all the way to Tecumseh Rd. Shame.
