One Fare – Walkerville & Detroit Ferry Co – c 1925

To close out this mini series of posts of old transit tickets, is this one for the Walkerville – Detroit ferry. The Walkerville – Detroit ferry was established by the Walker’s to ease getting to their distillery. The journey from the Windsor Ferry Docks to the distillery in Walkerville was one that Hiram Walker felt was too long and too difficult. So the ferry to Walkerville was born. Instant arrival at the distillery. Interestingly enough, while the Bridge and Tunnel quickly killed the Windsor – Detroit ferries in the early 1930’s, the Walkerville – Detroit ferry continued to operate until 1942.

Have a good weekend everyone, see you back here Monday!
