So a few weeks back, there was a post with a photo looking at the Dougall “Super-Highway” from 1931. In the comments on that thread Tom D says he was forwarding a picture showing the 3 bridges from 1972…

The Dougall/Ouellette merge is at the very top, followed by the first bridge. I don’t remember this one at all, it must have been gone before I came to Windsor in 1989. The next two I do remember. Only the one closest to the bottom of the image remains today. Does anyone remember when they took the second one out? Mid 1990s? How about the first one?

Worked on taking them out in about 98 or 99. Have some photos of the demolition somewhere. Will try to find and forward them.

As I commented in your last post, the two redundant viaducts were both removed together around 1998. I lived in South Windsor at the time and drove under them at least several times a day as that’s one of the few ways to get in and out of the neighborhood. Being a rail enthusiast, those viaducts are something I paid close attention to.
The two redundant viaducts sat unused since the mid 80s when CN took over what is now the Van De Water yard and redesigned the yard lead to branch off the main line right after the remaining red viaduct.
You came here in 1989 and have this much deep interest in the city and its history???

I thought they came out about the same time. Glad to know know that wasn’t a false memory.
I also remember these bridges growing up in South Windsor. I think the middle bridge’s tracks were removed first. (That would have been in the mid ’70’s.) Van De Hogan Trucking used to have a yard right where the tracks used to come off that bridge. As you can see from the picture the tracks are gone. But they are still there for the third bridge. And if you look closely you can also see that the tracks were moved south. This was to accomidate the wrecked cars that Zaliv’s used to pile there. Does anyone remember the piles and piles of flattened cars that they used to have there? What a sight that used to be! They were so high that you would think they would have fallen over.
I remember the piles of cars that Zalev’s had near the 3rd (top) bridge, as a kid. I don’t remember ever seeing a train crossing that bridge though.
Does anyone have pictures of these bridges before they came down?
