Ouellette and University c. 1925

An interesting shot looking west along London Street (today’s University Ave) from the intersection of Ouellette and London. The Labelle Building is on the left, and the Imperial Bank on the right. In the distance beyond the street car is the Capitol Theatre at Pelissier. A nice snapshot of downtown Windsor about 90 years ago.

Have a great weekend everyone! Sorry I missed posting on Wednesday… The days got away from me this week. Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there too.

  • Nice shot of the intersection I can't believe how ugly that corner is these days the Labelle building might still be there in spirit but it's been replaced by that ugly mirrored box, nice shot of the Capital Theater and LOOK!! trees on Univercity also another thing not seen in Windsor anymore awnings over windows I can't make out what that sign on the north side of the street over the 3 men standing on the corner says Happy Fathers Day everyone

  • Went to the movies at the Capitol twice a week during the 40's. In between I went to the Palace (name???) on Ouellette near London St. As a teenager, I loved those frothy movies...and the B pic was always a great one from England with all those great actors.

  • My dad and I watched the Labelle building burn down (1959? ). It was pretty exciting stuff to a kid but we lost a fine building that day.

  • Gary, I believe the sign is for Meretsky Furniture which was on the corner of Chatham and Pelissier.

  • We spent many Saturdays at the Capitol or Palace amd you got a lot for ten cents! The main feature plus a B movie,a cartoon, newsreel and cominng attractions! And we could bring our lunch when we went in around noon.

  • I will echo the awnings. Too bad no one has these anymore because they keep the sun and elements away.
