The caption on the back indicates it was taken for the short lived Detroit Mirror. It is dated September 24, 1931.
The picture was taken from the roof of St Alphonsus Church and looking north east. The old Police Station is visible on the right.
A neat view of the old Checker Service Station on the north east corner of Park and Goyeau, where the travel information centre sits today.
Have a good weekend everyone! See you back here Monday.

*sigh*
What I wouldn't give to walk the streets of the Windsor I see in these photos. :(
It is so, dramatically different, I was certain you had your directions wrong, Andrew. lol
It seems that St. Alphonsus Church might be the only thing still standing in the photo. And even that looks a little different. What is the brick structure that looks like it's attached to the front. It doesn't look like the tower that is there today. Was that added later?
I can't find anything else. All Saints Church might have been there at that time, but I haven't been able to pick it out of the photo, if it's in there.
Hmmm. So they were enjoining "all the privileges of a Canadian citizen." For instance, free choice of beverages? Prohibition wasn't repealed in the USA until 1933.
Looks better than today.. Wish we kept some of those structures and renovated them but I guess that's not good enough.
I can't believe the number of houses that occupied that block back then now all we have is that shitty little park what a waste
that brick building with the window awnings wouldn't be the police station by chance??
Good God Aaron, I couldn't agree more with you.
Gary, it is indeed the police station. That was all exposed when they tore down the last one they had built around it.
Shawn....if I get a time machine, you'll be the first person I call. lol
