McCord Shipping Docks – Peabody Building c. 1983

These photos were shot by Matthew Kulbacki, from the same shoot as the previous Peabody photos. Thanks again Matthew.

A photo of the backside of the old Peabody building. Interesting to note the old shipping dock.

Luckily Matthew got in there and got a detail shot almost 30 years ago. A nice view of the McCord Radiator shipping docks. Not sure how a truck would have crammed in there….

  • Love it! These old industrial giants were just incredable. During the industrial revolution in America many of the larger ones were actually tourist attractions. Folks would come over from the less industrialised European countries to see these feats of engineering and architecture. We are lucky to still have the ones we still do... It's a shame that plants like Packard in Detroit have fallen to rubble. These were truly the icons of their day!

  • Trucks were smaller when the Peabody Building was built!

My Dad, a stationary engineer, worked at the Peabody for a number of years before he retired in the late sixties. The windows were replaced during his tenure and - since he had previous, extensive experience as a glazier - he did or was largely involved in that job as well.

  • with the Peabody building in such close proximity to he pere marquette yard i'm surprised there wasn't a siding that went along the south side of the building i don't know for sure but i would assume the loading dock in the forground could have been loading and off loading flat bed trucks maybe nice old photos thanks again matt
