1989 Ontario Street – Part II

Back in May, there was this post about this house.

Since that post started, it has attracted some of the weirdest comments of any post I’ve ever had on here. So in the five months since the first post went up, what’s the current status?

Here you go:

As winter approaches, it still looks very far from done. They’ve put a massive addition on the back, almost as big as the house itself, but the original section, while maintaining the shape of the original structure, is still missing windows.

Have a fun and safe halloween tonight if you’re going out with little ones. See you Wednesday for the first post of November!

  • Shane, clearly you do not know what you are talking about--------all the owners in the nearby area were delivered a letter by the contractor explaining what was happening at the house and the reason for delays as you can expect at most renovation sites. This was not a nice house, no insulation, rotting wood, leaking basement, decaying brick, windows caulked shut etc.---cosmetically it looked nice---------however badly need of repair. Maybe Shane should have been hired to oversee this project since you know so much?
You have a lot of nerve to suggest money issues? Clearly something is going on ? Please Shane expound your wisdom to all of us and let everyone know---what?. Who are you and where do you live, let's take a look at your house and comment on it's state and furthermore, who appointed you to speak for the neighbors? This site continues to spread rumours and make comments that are totally inappropriate. Individuals like yourself truly need to take a look in your own backyard before posting comments----------Again wait till spring, when the project is completed and then feel free, until then, find another hobby to keep yourself occupied. When the owner does move in this spring, you will "all" owe her an apology----------the problem is it will be too late.

  • rgm. if you know so much about whats going on... why don't you enlighten us?!
I've neven seen a construction project delay for months like this without there being a specific reason. People in Walkerville have their backs up.. some of us are a little defensive. Time after time we are subjected to people cladding their 100yr old homes in stucco, or the demolition of historic commercial property on walker road, etc etc... A simple answer would go a long way. People in this area are proud of their neighbourhood and only want to see it flourish. So people talk.. and wonder.. whats going on? How long will we be looking at a half completed home? Is it only a small delay or is this going to be like this for years?? After a couple months of no progress people get concerned! It only takes a few months to build a house with a big company. I'm not sure what the problem is on this house... Sure I may have speculated money.. but perhaps is the contractor? or the city not issuing permits? I don't know!! All I do know.. is its abnormal for a construction site to be absent for such a long period of time! How do I know this is abnormal? I'm in the construction industry. Why am I concerned? I live in the nighbourhood. I don't need to apologize to anyone. I am simply asking questions!

  • Shane, read the first sentence, everyone in the neighborhood was hand delivered a letter months ago regarding this project and what was being completed, how and when !!!!!! Why was it hand delivered??=to answer any questions they might have---------!!!!

Again the homeowner does not apologize for how long it is taking---------it is her right to take as much time as she can to get it right---------You know where the homeowner lives--------where do you ????------construction industry ----please--------you know the homeowner's name------identify yourself-----your like the guy who get's caught speeding and he tells the cop--------don't you know who I am?--------laughable at best

You want to know something, identify yourself---------call the homeowner --------be a man instead of hiding behind a blog making accusations you nothing about.
Being in the construction industry you sure have a lot of time on your hands-------successful? Having money problems ? It would be great to look at one of your homes you built or renovated--------address?

Again, identify yourself to the homeowner and talk to her, or shut up and wait till spring and then comment----DO YOU GET THAT------STOP HIDING BEHIND A BLOG.

  • RGM - quit babbling on about how this project should be handled, I’m starting to get the impression that you have know idea what you are talking about. I think that you only come on to the blog to screw with people. You really did not answer anything in you last comment on this post.

Shane – You are absolutely correct; this renovation is taking 5 times longer than it should. This is not a normal time frame for a project like this to be completed; I would guess 5 – 6 months from start to finishing would be typical. That would be with quality workmanship and products used in construction and renovation.

  • hey rgm.. where do you live? whats your address? whats your SIN? how many cats do you have, and what are their names?!?! you are going crazy about someone making a general observation. perhaps you are upset about some people (including myself) assuming money is a problem. that's fine. this is a blog, and a forum for discussion. as i mentioned, many people who live in the walkerville area are curious about what is happening. people have their defenses raised, particularly people who have an interest in historic properties. they are not prying or harassing.. they simply are concerned about historic preservation. some of those people get on blogs or forms are discuss the issues. it was nice of the owner to distribute a letter to the immediate neighbours, he or she didn't need to do that. however, not everyone in the nighbourhood got one of these letter, not that i'm saying it is a requirement by ANY means. so... we get on here and chat. to try to figure out whats happening in our neighbourhood.
your absolutely right. we shouldn't assume money is an issue. sometime people make assumptions when they shouldn't. my only statement was that it certainly appears something is going on. but i guess it's wrong of me to say that.. because i have no idea what i'm talking about.

  • Windsorite man, Shane, both of you are the babbling idiots-------I have never indicated how the renovation should be completed-------BOTH OF YOU HAVE--------over and over again. You assume what should be done, what's not being done and YOU BOTH HAVE NO IDEA. Leave the homeowner and her house alone---------wait till spring and if you have a problem state your issues then.

That you did not receive the letter hand delivered to the neighbors, means you do not live near enough to this house. If your so concerned talk to the neighbors around this house and find out what they know.
Again, the homeowner does not answer to you, she has done everything she can to make sure the "immediate neighbors" know what's going on-----------Now Move On--------talk to you in the Spring.

  • rgm. clearly you are not capable of having civil conversation about the subject. you come in here acting super obnoxious and defensive about the subject. i tried to be polite and explain to you where i and perhaps others were coming from.. that our curiousity comes from a sense of pride and ownership in the neighbourhood, and an interest and respect for historic properties. i mentioned that many people in walkerville are a little defensive about the area because we have seen some pretty bad things happen to quite a few historic building in the area. but since feel obligated to go off on a tangent everytime someone speaks, and completely disregard or ignore they are trying to explan. i am no longer going to address your ranting. you've got some sort of super suburban "leave me alone" mentality and obvously don't understand the dynamic walkerville.

i apologize to the other posters, perhaps i kept this going too long. i will cease in my "poking of the bear" with this last remark.

  • Shane

I have to agree with you again, I believe that RGM is just some young kid (probably under 21) who is screwing with people on this Blog. I don't think he has much knowledge about home restoration and renovation. I think the way RGM conducts himself on this Blog is Very immature and unprofessional.

BTW – I wanted to point out that windows are usually measured and order at the beginning of construction, if not sooner. RGM mentioned that the windows take 16-18 weeks for delivery, It appears that this project has be going on for at least 24 weeks which would mean that the windows should have been at the site 6 weeks ago. Trusses, staircases, doors, flooring, kitchen cabinets are also usually ordered when construction begins and delivered on site when needed.

I would advise everyone else on this BLOG should ignore what RGM has to say from this point on.

I did drive by this site today and it appears that this site is abandoned, I can’t say why but I do know that projects like this are usally completed by now give when the construction started.
