2006 Loraine Avenue

Below is a builder’s ad dated June 15, 1929, for what was then 66 Loraine Avenue in Walkerville.

The house has survived nicely over the years. At some point the Tudor elements were covered over, but all in all a really nice example of the boom years of South Walkerville, and the border cities in general.

  • Excellent advertisement Andrew! My Grandmother lived across the alley on Verdun. These homes all look the same today some 70-80 years later. The detail in each and every home is amazing, something you do not see in modern house building.

  • I'd be interested in what a house of that style and size would have sold for back in 1929,my son lived in that neighbourhood on Somme up until this past spring nice older area of the city

  • Those streets south of the hospital are all very nice to walk up and down. Splendid homes throughout. Not much traffic on the eastwest streets either. Quiet living but close to everything.

  • It's been mentioned before how weird it is to see those houses, looking so isolated, in what are now crammed (or at least very full) neighbourhoods. But it's kind of funny, because I've been re-watching Arrested Development, and they're living in a model home, and it is just like that. Completely isolated, with nothing around it.
