Happy Victoria Day everyone!

Regular readers of the site may recall the post on the boarded up Deluxe Apartments back in May, 2009.

The six-plex, after 2+ years, has met the same fate as the two houses to the north, and is now a pile of rubble. The building was demolished last Wednesday, May 18th.

As is the Windsor way, like we’ve seen time and again with demolitions, nothing is salvaged, and it all goes to the landfill. This picture shows a bathtub, fridge and stove all still this apartment. This is only one of six units.

Another one bites the dust….

There are now no buildings between Ontario Street and the St. Anne’s Grade School.

I hope the school board isn’t behind this. If they can’t afford to keep librarians on staff, they certainly can’t afford to be buying and demolishing properties 🙂

  • Wouldn't there have to be a demolition permit on file with the city and accessible to the public, identifying the owner (and demolisher) of record?

  • Parking lot? We certainly need more of those!

This building sits for 2 years vacant and then you can go to the house besides Bubbi's restaurant where the roof has collapsed on itself after the fire in Oct. 2010. If anyone recalls that house was "supposed" to be taken down within a month....7 months later.....

Yup, Windsor is it's own worst enemy.

  • what kills me about this city council is they talk and talk and talk about urban blight and how it erodes the city but they don't do anything about it the only place they seem to act quickly on is any derelict building in the vacinity of the casino what the city needs is someone to get injured near one of these places and get their ass sued off before they act in a more timely manner

  • 'bout time they knocked that building down. There were Belfor signs all over it for 2 years and they never laid a finger on it. Kudos to the school board if they were the ones that bought it. Whether it's greenspace for the kids or a parking lot for the teachers makes no difference. Either one is better than what it was. Now time to deal with the ugly properties south of Ontario. Specifically the home with the corrugated metal siding...

  • Well we're movin on up, / To the east side. / To a Deluxe Apartments in the sky. / Movin on up / To the east side. / We finally got a piece of the pie

  • It's a shame... I'd often thought that would make a great little cafe.

The thing that really gets me is what some of the others are saying... It’s likely just going to be a parking lot or an empty lot. We are losing too many buildings here in Windsor... It's starting to look empty; we are beginning to take after our friends across the river.

  • with all this maneovering the city is doing with knocking all these derelect buildings down and the proposed new swimming pool it's like their trying to move the core farther west

  • I have to agree with Dante. The building owners left it derelict for a long time. It really brought down the neighbourhood. Good riddance.
