On the MTO plans, it notes a “potential security vehicle structure”, I can only assume that this is what is being built at Howard & Memorial at the new grade separation.
Whoever designed this need a pat on the back. It’s been a while since anything was built in Windsor that wasn’t a boring lame ass glass clad box. A nice mix of materials, stone and brick, stone lintels and window sills… I’m sure it also houses the pump as well.
It’s a far cry from what was built at Walker Road… Whoever designed this a big pat on the back.
There may be hope yet…

Yes, I agree, very nice design and use of materials on the Howard Avenue building. I drove past it last week and remarked the same. A little bit of green around there in the end will help as well… let’s hope the quality and design of landscaping matches the building architecture.
I have been watching the progress of that building as well. It has been really nicely done. I really wish someone could explain why we don’t have other buildings built that look like this?

I also like this building…maybe not a fan of the “stone”, but it definitly has great lines.
A while ago I asked about this building and was convinced it was the CP police building, but is definitly the pump house. Although it may contain an officers station.
We can see the large overhead crane that is coming out of the side for heavy equipment replacement. That whole triangle between Howard, the CP tracks and the Essex Terminal
is going to be a retention pond for all the water pumped out of the subway during heavy storms.
My opinion though….although they’ll be planting trees around this pond, is that they should put decorative fencing around the ponds (there are 3 I think, separated by burms) and make it somewhat of a small park. It would also be nice to have an elevated platform or two in stratigic spots for railfans to watch and photograph these two great railways. Having CP with a new bridge, which will have great trees and plants around it, and the Essex Terminal just coming around a curve in this location could make for some great photos, and keep people from going on or near the right-of-way to get their shots.
As small as it is Andrew……I got pretty excited when I saw all the brick on that little pump at Walker! I was shocked it wasn’t aluminum siding or stucco!
btw…..is anyone else having a problem with google maps/streetview???? Mine doesn’t work!

Isn’t there supposed to be a US Customs inspection facility (VACIS) built somewhere along the rail leading to the tunnel?
Mike, it’s located just east of Walker road on the Canadian Pacific mainline I beleive. This is why these subways are being constructed because the trains have to slow to something like 10 mph to go thru the scanner (VACIS)
I thought this might be some sort of railway building.
I wonder what the new train station will look like in Walkerville?
If it looked like this, we could stop being embarrassed about our architecture when people visit.
