From the May 24, 1928 Border Cities Star
The plan was to build this Ford City Fire Station on Drouillard Road, opposite Demming Ave.
As you can see on the 1937 map, there was a lumber yard on Drouillard, opposite Demming Ave.
Today Demming Ave. doesn’t even exist.
I guess the referendum to accept the by-law to borrow the money to build the fire hall failed at the ballot in 1928. Another part of Windsor’s unbuilt past.

Demming ceased to exist when Ford expanded their properties and took down houses on both Demming and Cadillac St.
Now theres building that would give a sense of pride to any town!!!
Every civic building should be as gorgeous as this one!
When exactly did the cheap pole barns become the only style afforded to fire halls around here? I dont think there is a fire hall for 300 kms as good looking as this one!!! Sad.
No doubt the fire hall was blocked by lumber shed preservationists.
Nice design. It reminds me a little bit of the old firehouse at College & Bellevue in Toronto.
what a beautiful station!! but in the end, we all know that it was better off never being built at all. because this year or next, it would have been torn down to make way for exactly what's there right now: a run down, condom and needle filled park that nobody really wants to use.
My grandfather William Girard was the Fire Chief of Ford City and when Windsor
took in Ford City, Walkerville and Sandwich as part of the city he became the Assistant
Fire Chief to Fields of the Windsor Fire Departmanent. He opened the Richmond and Walker Rd. station. My nephew has his gold watch with the date engraved on the back from the W.F.D.
