Today’s entry is a follow up to last Wednesday’s entry about 430 Karl.
By the time the entry ran last week, the building’s fate was sealed. These photos were taken Thursday morning.

And another one bites the dust! This has been a banner year for demolitions so far… and we’ve still got 8 months to go.
I just read this morning’s Windsor Star. They also demolished the grad house over the weekend. As for 430 Karl, I hope something positive comes of this like an architecturally worthy building. Same goes for the grad house. Hopefully, it’s not another boring building that gets built on that site.
David, thanks for the heads up. I went by and got some pictures of the Grad House this am. Demolished is a bit of a misnomer. The second floor is gone, but the main floor and chimney were very much still standing this morning.
On Karl, I would expect to see a vacant lot there for a long time, and to replace the Grad House, I can tell you it won’t be an architectural wonder. Think of a box, added on to the existing box.
Walked past the grad house this morning on my way to exams. It is funny how the university claims that the demolition had nothing to do with the court injunction that was being sought, yet all of the other buildings to be demolished were not touched first. The grad house was actually cleared out after some of the other buildings had been, likely to get it down before the courts stepped in.
To add to the box comment, remember its going to be a 2 story box, because the university does not have the foresight to build upwards, even though by their own admission they are a land-locked university.

You’ve seen the plans for the medical facility already? I think the University of Windsor is such an embarrasment. If I look at the some of the High Schools in Windsor like Kennedy High School, my jaw drops. I’ve never seen such architecturally beautiful high schools anywhere else in Ontario. Kennedy High School’s architecture could blow some of the Ivy League universities out of the water. I was in Walkerville last week and noticed King Edward High School. It was demolished in 1993 and, then, rebuilt using the same Albert Kahn architecture. Heck, they built the social services building on Riverside in a similar compatible style. Then, we get to the University of Windsor. How could the average high school in Windsor look a million times better than our University? Sure, we’ve got Dillon Hall and Assumption College, but it’s surrounded by crap.
I haven’t seen plans, but it’s going to be grafed into the exisiting builing to the north of the Grad House site. So it will match the current building, which is fug in my opinion.
The funny thing is….I was told the plan was, the grad house was going to be the last house demolished…..
2012 and it’s a grassy lot. They didn’t knock it down to make room for something else, they knocked it down because it was so far gone, it was a danger to people.
