So I drove by the other day for an update shot, and found the building gone, save for the basement.
Just like in the previous visits – February 15th, and March 2, I tried to take shots from the same two vantage points.
It sure looks funny to see that lot empty.
I’ll keep track and post construction photos as the new drug store rises.
It was not a very attractive building anyway. Hopefully whatever goes up in its place will be easy on the eyes.
What drug store will occupy the site?
Rumor has it as a Rexall.
I was at the Tim Hortons at University & Bruce the other night and one lady that works there said they had a staff meeting about locations. From what she tells me the old CAA land is also getting a Tim Hortons with a drive-thru ( despite the City bylaw of no drive-thru’s on Ouellette ). The owner of the Tim Hortons on University is planning on building 2 new Tim Hortons one at Ouellette & Giles and the other at Wyandotte & Crawford. Not sure how true this is if anyone else knows maybe post it here. It could be gossip,it could be true i’m not really sure.
Rich, The one at Wyandotte and Crawford is a go. It will be on the s.w. Corner.
A No Frills Grocery Store is also planned for the n.e. corner.
i agree the old caa building was butt-ugly but that doesn’t mean they had to tear it down. if the foundation was good they could have recycled the building and turned it into something beautiful. remember the butt-ugly hiram walker warehouse on wyandotte that’s being turned into condominiums? a one story, single-use building is totally wrong for that location.
Sigh. Remember the Hiram Walkers flatiron building? Best building in Windsor. Now grass, affording a view of the train tracks.
i’ve heard rumors that the raymond desmarais apartment building on riverside drive is next in line to get the wreckers ball. any truth to that?
George, that’s news to me. Although I suppose that anything is possible. Who’s after the land the Casino or a private developer?
Rexall both here and on Huron Church. The new Tim’s is going on the existing site.
