Lifetime Warranty

The deathfences are up, and time has run out for the old Veteran Plumbing store on Wyandotte St @ McDougall. The store was a long time downtown fixture, and in the last few years, packed up and headed to the south end of the city near the Sprawl-Mart. I used to head frequently to Veteran Plumbing during plumbing projects. Once they moved, I tried to go there once, and found them closed. I never went back.

Another business that left downtown high and dry, and took off for “greener” pastures. As the building eaters gobble this one up, the complex, nearly a half city block long will leave a huge gap in the streetscape.

The building eater stands guard, ready to devour this one. This should be a little harder than the usualy smash ’em down that goes on in Windsor, based on the proximity of the structure to the roadway.

After the demolition of a more recent rear addition, the original building is visible, behind its modern skin.

I’m not certain what the plans are for the site once cleared, but I have a sneaking suspicion that a surface parking lot is in our future! YAY PARKING!

  • that's so strange. i haven't seen many buildings get torn down on wyandotte unless they burn down. i wonder why they're tearing this down.

  • 5 bucks says it has to do with the "arena" (and I say that in the loosest of terms) across the street. I wonder if the Riolo's bought the property?

  • I'd love to see some historical photos of Wyandotte St. E, particularly from the 1930s to 1960s where it was filled with immigrant owned, successful businesses, mainly furniture stores.

  • Oh the humanity! There's still a For Lease sign at the parking lot formerly known as the Joker. So when are some of the buildings next to the Tunnel plaza for its expansion expected to be coming down?? Since the Casino has been completed, I haven't seen any construction happening in downtown. WTF? It's just meaningless destruction of downtown buildings without any planning or afterthought.

  • You know I have been looking for someone who remembers the name of the restaurant that use to be at the side of Veterans Plumbing there were buildings attached to it and there was a little diner inset with an arched doorway and an ice cream bar .... I needed to know because my parents 50th wedding anniversary is coming up and that is the little diner they met at .... my mother was a car hop at big boys and my dad a cabbie for Veterans Cab .... I would love to know the name of the little restaurant all they can remember is that the owner was Gus :( it became a parking lot I think in the 80's or early 90's for The Barn ....
