Photo Du Jour – December 16, 2005 – Clean Up

First the Marquee goes, now the famous window paintings of the United Artists Building are being scraped off.

When will the madness end? Maybe the cynical demolition belief was mistaken? Maybe it is all a show for out of towners in town for Superbowl Kwame?

  • This might be a good thing. If they intended to demolish the building, wouldn't they just remove the windows altogether instead of preserving them by scraping the "offensive" graffiti off?

  • I guess they'd rather have people paint things on street-level brickwork... This was some good art, and once in a while, it's better this than seeing an abandoned building with unpainted windows. It was something a little different. If it's for the Superbowlers, they'll see right through it anyways.
