A few photos today from IM readers…

This set is courtesy Darren B.
He sends along a photo of the massive cranes at the Foundry, slowly taking her apart.
This before shot shows the Foundry at night when it was up and running.
Here’s the same view today. Darren notes how odd it is to look out his window at night and to see a big black void.

Reader cpike, sends along a few recent shots. The cranes are hard at work, quickly stripping away the exterior metal.

A big thank you to both Darren and cpike for forwarding on these photos.
Sorry but I left my message on the wrong page (yesterday’s blog) But I for one will not be missing the STINK from that foundry !!! Being an ex-auto worker I will miss the fact that were losing jobs ,but that stink from the foundry I will not miss !!! Hopefully something will go up in it’s place ???
They’re still at it today. Never seem to stop. Yesterday morning sounded like they were killing a metal dragon. I took some more photos yesterday, but will try to shoot some video if it ever stops raining.
I won’t miss the stink and noise either. I am sorry that jobs are lost, but living next to that place has been so hard to open windows during the spring, summer or fall around here.
Wow – the reek of the green sand won’t be missed by anyone, I’m sure! I never looked forward to it when I had to go into the foundry – hot as hell, dark as hell, stinky as hell – and yet most workers I talked to liked it! They wouldn’t transfer to the air-conditioned Essex Engine plant if it was offered! Insane……
I used to work there. It was the best Ford plant to work at.
Why was it the best Ford plant to work at?
I remember the company used to pay people to have their cars cleaned from the fallout from that plant a rusty like deposit that used to cost quite a bit to clean off . I think in was the locals that got this service ???
It was a bit more laid back in the foundry. But it was the type of work that made it better. I didn’t have to do all the repetitive jobs you’d have on an engine line.
The fallout on the cars was nasty. i think they’d pay to get it cleaned off once a year. I think the locals had it covered too…
