The Chry Moto club on McDougall, across from Windsor Stadium is so named for the Chrysler Motors factory that once stood a few blocks north at McDougall and Tecumseh Road. I once heard a story, I don’t remember where or from who, but they told me that this building is actually the old clubhouse from the old Windsor Jockey Club (Horse Track) that once stood where Kennedy and Jackson Park are today.
I’ve never seen any proof of this fact, and I’m not sure if it was moved, or if it was always there.
It’s interesting and would be neat to prove. Add it to the list of interesting Windsor stories…
i never drank there but when i worked for the city alot of the guys i worked with went there after work for a few beers
don’t mention anything historical about it if the city hears you they’ll turn it into a parking lot LOL

It was once a club for Chrysler Supervisors (It was too dangerous for supervisors to drink with the supervised)Having been inside it’s not very substantial or well built and though it may have been part of the complex of buildings of the Jockey club, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the clubhouse.
Drank there a couple of times(I think?!?!)because it was cheap draught beer.
Certainly wasn’t because of the ambiance.
I was only there once, of rhte reception after a friend’s funeral. I had never even heard of it before, and it was kind of a strange set-up for a bar. And it just looks like a house. We went upstairs to get the food, but I don’t think that’s normally a part most people go to, but I’m not sure. It’s a relic, so it should be gone soon.
True…this city main goal is to demolish anything historical nobody in council cares about our past …
I visited downtown London today and all I can say is, Windsor needs to get their act together.
right on Jim—–I went to London as well–i was so shocked at the differnce—what have they done to our town–we once had more going on than London—something is happening here and its not good…they can talk all they want–we need new life here and better people to put out a good program for us and the city…quit losing our jobs and selling our parks $$$$$$$ is not short –just being mishandled. we had a great and beautiful city plus we are a bordertown—get our act together—lets!
I lived and worked in London, part of 58 &59 there was a big difference between Windsor and London. The feeling was Windsor was a nicer friendly city, great place to live if you had a job, the factory jobs where controlled by demand for the product ruled. Other than GM locomotive London had a white collar workforce not ruled by consumer demand like factories.
The shopping was much better in London more variety of local and national chains, both had complement of grocery and chain drug stores, London has a 360 degree area to draw from, Windsor had to contend with Hudson’s, and four other large department stores a 10 cent bus ride away with more selection and lower prices.
Windsor and London have been compared for years, but its like comparing apples and oranges.
The one and only time I went to the Chry Moto was after my KCI grad ceremony in 1991. It was a dump but the beer was cheap and it was good to run into old friends (unlike other schools our graduation was in the fall not in June).
