A nice view of the front of the old St. Mary’s Academy on Ouellette Avenue and Park. The photo was taken as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the school in 1914. This was actually the second school building, and this one was replaced by the one in South Windsor in 1928. This building was demolished to make way for the Windsor – Detroit tunnel.
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Hard to believe it’s the last week of November already…
Thank you so much for this. I had never heard of the first and second St Mary’s. When I was young I used to ride my bicycle from the wartime housing district (aka now “South Walkerville”; what a hoot!) out to St Mary’s to pray at the wonderful grotto. I still remember that wee place with thanks.
Great picture! A recent Windsor Star ‘From The Vault’ entry shows the original St Mary’s Academy in the background.

Cool pic JBM
Nice building, fine post IM!
Wonderful. I’m still hoping you will find a picture of the Ursuline Academy somewhere near there during the 1930s when I went to Kindergarten. After that I spent 13 years at St. Mary’s in South Windsor.
