A few recent post subjects can be seen in this photo. On the right hand side are both the Masonic Temple, and the HMCS Hunter, and on the other side of Ouellette a little further up is Anderson’s Funeral Home.
From this angle, it looks as if Windsor and Detroit are one.

Also I neglected to post the information about the May blogger meet up, but it was last night.
I would like to welcome My Local Food Blog to the list of links. A new addition to the blog family here in Windsor and Essex County. This one is all about buying local produce in Essex County.
From the elevation, it almost seems like it’s taken from the Medical Arts Building. Too bad no one was able to get pictures of the inside. I was always curious what it now looks like from the inside, being vacant all these years and seeing graffitti along the fire escape from the south side.
The Medical building is still in relative good shape on th einside and outside. The last time I was in there the original elevator (with the closing gates and operator) was still working.
The elevator last ran about 7 or 8 years ago, and is no longer operational.
David is right, it is from the Medical Arts building, and who said I didn’t get photos of the inside? 🙂
There is a proposal in the works to convert the building into conominium use. Cross your fingers that it works out, the building needs a new life.
When the Queen visited Windsor in 1984 she thought Detroit was part of Windsor as well. That’s when I started to think the monarchy was not as smart as one would think they should be. A monarch should know the extent of her commonwealth.
The vacant lot this side of Anderson funeral home has a historical significance. A developer once came to the city with a proposal for a massive high rise building on the property. The proposed density was far more than the zoning permitted Rather than reject it out of hand, city council launched a costly, major planning study leading to the “Ouellette Avenue corridor†development plan which took more than a year in preparation. It set favourable high-rise building rules to encourage development along all of Ouellette as seen in this picture. And 25 years later the lot remains vacant.
Prove it. 😉

I can almost picture a streetcar on Ouellette…
Just out of curiosity, what time of day was that picture taken? It looks like it was taken in the middle of the day, but the street is eerily devoid of both car and foot traffic.
