At 37 stories, this is going to be a big addition to the Windsor skyline.
Sure hope they employs lots of people. The way the automotive industry is going the casino may be the biggest employer in the city.
Anyone know if the Raymond Desmaris highrise blocking the new hotel’s riverside view will be demolished? I keep hearing from people living there that the casino bought the apartment building for that purpose, but I haven’t heard anything more. People from the building haven’t been evicted. Anyone know if they’ve applied for a demolition permit from the city or anything formal like that?
David, that’s the rumor I’ve heard. It will be interesting to see if it comes true.
In my opinion that’s probably a rumor. If i’m not mistaken I think the Windsor Housing owns that building and it’s not normal practice for them to sell off real estate. Unless someone down at City Hall is getting ready to push the expropriation button. That building has quite a few apartments in it, relocating all those people would sure be a chore.
I just saw the artist’s rendering of the expansion in the Star today. I don’t see the Desmarias building there. I don’t think they’ll have a hard time relocating anyone with our ridiculously high vacancy rate in Windsor.
