After 50 years, Dayus Roofing is moving from Howard Avenue, expropriated for the new crossing. This Windsor business has been around since 1950, and luckily they aren’t packing it in. According to the sign on the Howard facade, they are moving to Halford Road in Oldcastle.
Interesting to see what’s under all the crap…
Personally I think the before looked better, I always found the complex to look kind of odd architecturally. I’m not quite sure what changing the roofline accomplished, other than giving it a “modern” (at the time) 1970’s look.

Still, it is another business leaving Windsor!
One word Urbanrat…Taxes.
Yes, I would say taxes figured into the new location. I also think the old looks better, a lot of inefficient windows though (for the time). I am not a big fan of the Mansard style, or any style that uses shingles on vertical surfaces. Glad to see they’re still going to be in business though.
Granted they’re moving out of the City, but I consider Walker & North Talbot Road where they’re moving “closer” than say if they were moving to LaSalle or Manning & EC Row…
I believe the mansard/shingle look was sometimes referred to as “environmental” design–and was certainly a trend (briefly) in the 70s. A few major business–Howard Johnson’s, Holiday Inn and McDonald’s developed standized designs at the time based on “environmentalisation”.
This building is going to make way for the grade separation at Howard. That’s why they are moving.
As early as 1935, Dayus Roofing was located on Riverside Dr. W, north side of the street. Here is a pic of it…142-4 Riverside Dr. W http://heritage.windsorpubliclibrary.com/cdm4/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=/heritage&CISOPTR=195&CISOBOX=1&REC=6
