From the Library & Archives Canada collection, comes this photo of Solidarity Towers on the far east side.
Built in 1969, at 246 feet it is listed as Windsor’s 4th tallest building, after the new Casino Tower, Victoria Park Place and the original Casino Tower.
I hope everyone has a good easter.
I’m taking Monday off, posting will resume on Tuesday.

Make sure to tune into Scaledown Radio, Monday at noon, as Chris and I will be discussing the Ward Boundary Review.
I recall when this structure was built as we used to farm where Forest Glade now is. It gleamed in the distance. At the time as it was the tallest structure building for miles, it looked so out of place. The other apartment buildings nearby either didn’t exist yet or they were dwarfs compared to this.
i remember back in the 80s i believe when i was going to school in riverside a plane crashed or part of it landed in the land by the tower. hard to remember the story now.
I have a long history with the building. I have had many relatives live there and have worked there for many summers as a student doing maintenance on the building. On breaks we would go on the roof and look over the city and Lake St. Clair. The view is absolutely stunning.
Re: Darren’s comment. I believe that two planes collided across the street where the Westchester buildings are now. I could be wrong. This happened in the late 1970’s during the summer. Possibly 78-79.
Ken, you are correct in your recollection.
Ken… yes you are right on your recollection me and my brother live there when that happen we where teens at that time right after it happen we check it out plane parts all over in back yards on roofs
Darrwn that plane crash you mentioned was a midair collision between 2 planes one of them landed in the empty lot that runs along cedarview before those two condo buildings were erected one of the bodies from the crash layed in my buddies driveway all day covered with a sheet waiting for the officials from TO to show up
