The insular attitude of moving out to the burbs, isolated from the ills and follies of city living obviously started being ingrained well back into the days of 5-digit dialing.
Are those monstrous paved areas sidewalks in that photo? I guess the rest of the ‘burbs didn’t get the memo!
I think at one time people may have confused the words “oxygen” and “ozone”. Also, I think ozone was believed to be a supercharged and super healthy form of ozygen.
Anyway – it must have been a good marketing technique – South Windsor certainly flourished and some of the original owners did stay a lifetime.
“Ozone” sounds neat and futuristic. Why wouldn’t everyone want to move out there?
I have no problem with south Windsor as the layout is pretty much a grid pattern. It is the late ’60s and 70’s leading into today’s urban sprawl that I have issues with. The “spaghetti” road design and crammed in houses just screams “ghetto” for future generations.
The developement was also the reason Jackson Park was sub divided with the continuation of Ouellette ave to meet up with Dougall Ave ia the over pass. There were traffic tie ups on Dougall and Mac Dougall trying to get to the new burb.

Do you have anything on the property at 1053 Felix? It’s an interesting building. I am not sure what it started out as though. A fire house maybe?
I remember it as Prenny Print and Litho before Prenny moved to Dougall Ave next to the EC Row expressway in the 70’s.
On the subject of ozone… this advertisement was made before there was a good appreciation for the ozone produced as a byproduct of industrial activities. Smog was a known quantity but its components were not well understood.
The fresh scent after a good thunderstorm in residual ozone produced by lightning activity.

Interesting thought, sidewalks in South Windsor. Considering the taxes that have been collected over the years since 1952, you would think we could have sidewalks and lighting on streets.
I believe they are referring to your investment being protected.
