Another old postcard from the John Stefani Collection, this one shows the Majestic Tavern a.k.a. the “Old Spain Dining Lounge”. Located on Ottawa Street, the building today is better recognized as Tops of Windsor.
I guess back then with the nearby Blue Danube Hungarian Restaurant, the Majestic must have consisted of quite an ethnic dining area. 😉
Thanks to John for scanning and sending along the card.
Speaking of taverns, a heads up, I heard the Royale on Wyandotte will be ending its life within the next year, plans or in the works to tear it down and build a drugstore.
Mike …didn’t know that about the Royale…thanks! The Royale was a regular hangout for my parents before I was born (1971). It’s gotten a pretty dodgy reputation over the ensuing years. Good-bye to the old piss-hole! The Majestic was quite the spot it seems.
Ah, the Majestic! I worked as a teen for Heller’s Men’s Wear nearby and got quite accustomed to going into the Majestic through the back door for my order of toast and butter, the butter applied with a paint brush.
