Big thanks as always go out to Darren, who’s keeping track of the progress of the demolition of the foundry… He sends along these photos from last week.
As you can see in this photo, the Albert Kahn designed foundry section is about 50% gone now.
They started work on some of the smaller buildings surrounding the main building as well.
Looks like quick work was going to be made of that one…
It looks like the “easy” demo part is done, the south part of the plant(save for the blue area on “stilts”-this was/is a new locker room/weight room area) had little or roof equipment to be removed.
As the demo moves north there’s all the pollution control equipment(baghouses, vents .
etc.) on the roof to be dealt with.
The blue building in the bottom pic on the left is the Pattern shop built in the late 80’s early 90’s
i should send you an updated photo now. those buildings are gone. will email you in a bit
What will happen on this property after the foundry is gone?
Once they get down to the north end, they’ll have to dig down pretty far. There’s lots of layers of basements below the mold lines and melting area. That’s gonna be quite a job.
i’m happy i got to explore some of those tunnels and basements before she camr down. two or three levels minimum. i’m sure there’s more because there were hatches on the ground on the deepest tunnel i was in.
