Going through some old photos, I came across this shot from February, 2005. The long gone Wally’s Baits sign on Sandwich Street, just east of Mill Street. This shop was a long time west end fixture, I’m sure a great many readers have memories of this place…
Wally’s is still alive and kicking. It doubles as some kind of thrift store. That sign was tucked in the back for at least a year while some brick work was being done. I inquired about preserving it but got no response. I’m guessing it was taken away for scrap metal.
I got a fishing licence once. I got it, there.
Grew up around there and it always seemed dumpy inside. I remember there was a handwritten note in the window stating the building WAS NOT FOR SALE.
Guess a lot of people were looking to buy it.
What a shame about the sign. This was my great-uncle’s business, opened in the
late 1950s & owned by him until he died in 1991.
