Today’s old photo comes again from the dumped collection of the Detroit News. This photo is dated January 27, 1923, but was clearly not taken in January. I think this is the same photo that once ran in the Windsor Star, although the photo has a photographers stamp in the bottom corner:
“E. Rogers
Day & Night Studio
25 Pitt St. E.
Windsor, Ont.”
I’m going to guess that Evan A. Rogers sold his photo from 1922 to both the Star and the News. 
This photo reveals in the details a man hard at work either sprucing up or putting final touches on the stalls…
It was a nice looking building. A shame this one was lost too… I like the “D” in the roof. Nice architectural details.

Where was this racetrack located? I love the stone work. You don’t see enough of that stone work anymore.
the track was located where devonshire mall currently sits i believe…
what do you suppose that roofing mateial is? asphalt or maybe wood
Bruce – steve is correct – Devonshire Mall sits on the site of Devonshire Racetrack.
steve – I’m not sure what was used. I thought originally it might have been slate, but given the shape and size – it might be asphalt/asbestos shingles.
Hmm not unlike the architecture of some of the buildings at Boblo.
Andrew – got any idea what they did with the stone after it’s removal? Was this one of those structures that stayed on the property after long after the racetrack was shutdown?
I’m just curious because on the last picture, the short wall to the left greatly reminds me of the same kind of stone used in that bandstand in Lanspery park. I don’t know when that was built though.

Lisa – several years ago the News donated all their negatives to Wayne State, but the prints were dumped off to various collectors and resellers. Many of these prints are now making their way into the marketplace.

Lisa, try googling “windsor contentdm” when you get to that site there’s an area on the top left with a drop box. In that go to “heritage” quite a few old photos on there. Andrew had turned me on to that a whie ago.
