This final shot was taken in July 1994. Does anyone know when the last of the old cars were retired? This had to have been one of the last of the old cars.
Good stuff Andrew…..These pictures sure bring back memories. On occasion the view of these classics was through the rear view mirror, but it’s all good. Thanks for posting these.

Nice pictures. I guess this is before Windsor Police needed to have fancy undercover cars and trucks, fancy new Chargers with chrome rims, a staggering amount of SUV’s for a city that is as flat as Saskatoon and over-time pay that amounts to $100,000+ for 67 officers.
Funny that back then they sure did seem to make do but for some reason or another today they need to have these extras.
Great pitures I cleary remember one of these cruisers spiinng out in my front yard and hittiing a tree one snowy night while chasing somebody a long time ago, anyway on to a question I have unrelated i need help please, I am leaving for mexico tommorow and i,m hopping some one could please give me accurate direction to metro air considering all the constution on the Detroit freeways i,m planning on taking the bridge I know its 94 west i just need directions from the bridge on please and thank-you, ive tried google maps and map quest and they dont seem that accuarte they tell two different directions.
Don’t worry, follow the detour signs and you’ll be fine. Last time I was over, they took you back towards downtown, and up Rosa Parks to the freeway. Give yourself and extra 5-10 minutes and you’ll have no problems.

Does anybody remember the old full-size Chrysler’s the Windsor Police used to drive back in late 70’s/early 80’s? They looked like Dan Akroyd’s old Bluesmobile.
Now Windsor Police cruisers are among the best dressed in the country.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday as I admired the nice Charger complete with HEMI. I’d be really interested to find out what the truck/SUV total is these days. Given the secrecy surrounding the Police Budget, the chances of that happening are somewhere between slim and none.

When I saw the police cars I was reminded of the 3 wheel motorcycles the police used in the 50s to patrol the alleys around Ottawa Street. They were silver and most likely efficient machines for running up and down the alleys. Does anyone have any pictures of these machines and by the way the police didn’t wear helmets back then But more like Broderick lookalikes from Highway Patrol
Shawn. You might want to re-check your facts on that one. I was walking by a police Charger the other day and it did in fact have the factory chrome rims and not the hub caps (the rims have a deep set groove down each spoke of the rim while the hub caps do not). Maybe some do have the hub caps but I have now seen 2 Chargers with the rims.
What about the “undercover” cars and how decked out they are? At over $100,000 per vehicle that is a lot of money for a city that is seeing large increases in drug and gun crime.
I’m in agreement with Shawn- the Windsor Police Chargers do not have chrome rims. The ones you are referring to are on a possible few undercover models and they still aren’t chrome- they’re aluminum. I happen to work over at the completion centre where the bare-boned chargers get shipped in and we put the police package on them. The rims on 95% of the cars that we did are the cheaper rims. These cars- even with the package added and other police equipment do not cost $100,000. Far from it. Maybe the big SUV’s do… Also, the Magnums had plain black steel wheels with chrome plated plastic center caps on them. No carpet inside- just rubber flooring. Modified center console and a column shifter too.
I have no idea where your getting your figures from. The Charger actually cost less then the Crown Vic it is a better handling car and much better in the fuel consumption department. A crown Vic is $30,000 + whereas a Charger is around $26,000. Most of the Chargers have the 3.5 V-6. The only problem some of the taller officers have problems getting in or out of them. I absolutely love mine it really moves out and is a wonderful handling car. Our city is quite hilly and I have no problems getting up or down hill in the winter.
