College & Campbell – 1951

Image from SWODA

An interesting view here looking east along College Avenue towards the intersection with Campbell Avenue. This shot was taken in May, 1951, and despite 13 years having passed since the streetcars were removed, the tracks are still plainly visible and intact along this part of College Avenue. The Baby Tavern is located on the south east corner of Campbell and College, and it pretty much the only identifiable location in this shot. Does anyone know what’s going on with it? I don’t think it’s still open?

  • The Baby House has been closed for years ( more than 10 years?), it has been slowly going downhill but I think new windows were installed in the last year or 2 so it isn't totally abandoned

  • Interesting. I think I recall it closing, but it seemed like only a few years ago. I suppose that it could be 10. Time flies lately! I'm assuming that the upper units are occupied even if the ground floor isn't.
