So a few months ago one of those little weird medical offices was demolished further up Ouellette. I noticed that this one at 1466 Ouellette, near Sheppard (which was pretty much a twin of the other one) came down earlier this week as well. From what I can remember it’s been empty for the last few years.

Back in the day when family doctors had admitting privileges, they liked to be close to their hospitals (aka Hotel Dieu and Grace). As family doctors gave up admitting privileges, and after Grace closed, there were fewer reasons for doctors to locate downtown. When the mega hospital is built on the fringe, look for all the specialists in the city to move out with it.
Although Windsor is plagued with empty lots and needs densification I've always hated these dated little tiny, creepy looking buildings and I won't miss that other one or this one at all.
Agreed Ken!
Not every building to grace Windsor was "beautiful" or needed to remain standing.
I'm glad many of those are gone.
Actually, this was the original home of Medical Labs of Windsor, when MedLabs opened in about 1961. My mother worked there for several years in the sixties, before it expanded and moved to other locations. It made for some gentle kidding when Relaxation World moved in. Also, the original white/light grey brick colour looked much better. Kind of sad to see it gone.
