This ad ran in the Windsor Star in September, 1968. It shows the former local Hi Ho chain, and their 4 locations that once graced Windsor. One of our long lost, but fondly remembered local restaurants.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hmm... . . .that top pic ., does that say 'Butter Nuts' on the side of the trailor, I wonder. My aunts and uncle loved them.
OK...so where was the Starlite Variety Store, on Tecumseh Rd. E?
Uzzy, Starlite was roughly located on the south side of Tecumseh Road near the Rivard intersection.
I clearly remember a Hi Ho on Riverside Drive near Jarvis Street on the far east side back in the 1940's. Seems to me that there was one on Riverside Drive at St. Rose also. I had my first taste of hot dogs (foot longs with a toasted bun) and French Fries served in a plain cardboard open-topped "dish" served to me in my Dad's '47 Chev by a car-hop girl at the one on Tec. Rd. E. at Buckingham. I was five and could stand up in that beautiful car to see out the window in the back seat. I think this was an early example of curb "serv-us" and pre-dated A&W in these parts. There was nothing quite like the Grumpy Burger either. I remember their theme song as being like this: "Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to eat we go. The Hi Ho lunch is the best of the bunch, Hi Ho, Hi Ho." The place was always "hopping."
