Old City Hall – 1920

Old City Hall taken in 1920. Formerly a public school it was repurposed and used as Windsor’s second City Hall, until replaced by the current one in 1956.

Now there’s a new one coming, and some discussion has come up about how much should be spent. What do you think? Should Windsor make an impressive City Hall, or should we cheap out and build something bland that will need to be replaced again in 40 or 50 years?

No post Wednesday due to the Holiday, we’ll be back on Friday. Have a safe an happy Canada Day everyone!

  • I'd say, this old one built in 1920 certainly wasn't 'bland'......and down it came. Chances are, no matter how impressive a building will be in Windsor, be it new (50yr.) or old....it will come down in short order. The new city hall they built , I thought sometime in the early '60's, was supposed to be 'ultra- modern', sleek and raved about..............oh yeah? wha' happened. I guess the '60's design just doesn't cut it today. And on it goes!

  • There's absolutely no need for a new city hall. Not one reason.
99%+ Windsorites disagree with it...so why is it still happening?
Can we please just remove the people in power and start over again?
    This is preposterous.

  • Come to LaSalle and see our beautiful new Civic Centre: Town Hall, Library, Senior's Centre and public meeting space (inside) and reflecting pool, amphitheatre and cenotaph park outside. Plus several electric vehicle charging stations. Lots of walkable indoor and outdoor public space.
