St. Mary’s Church – Walkerville – c 1905

I like this postcard view from Walkerville, looking south on Devonshire Rd towards, what was then the brand new St. Mary’s Church. While it’s a pretty common view, it’s a rare one, where you can line up the view and it looks almost identical a century later. Not too many places in Windsor like that…

It even looks like the tree on the right is still there… Although slightly larger now. The fire hydrant placement has stayed still too.

Have a good weekend everyone. See you back here Monday.

  • Old Windsor survives. St Mary's is a wonderful example of English church architecture. A building sanctified by the prayers of the faithful for more than a century. It is a Windsor treasure, though I have not seen it in a few decades.

  • E. Chandler Walker, a son of Hiram, had this church built for him and St. Anne'
s on Richmons Street for Mrs. Walker who was Catholic. St. Anne's was across from Walkerville Collegiate at the corner of Richmond and Argyle. Today the church is a centre for dementia services. St. Mary's was originally a Methodist chruch and located on Riverside East and Devonshire across from Walker's.
