From the 1948 Windsor Daily Star…
- The Garden Tractor and Equipment Company, Ltd., 1164 Albert road, shown above … The plant shown here is far too small for the rapidly expanding business of the company and since early last January negotiaions have been held with Ottawa in an apptempt to expand in Windsor the facilities and space of the company. Now its owners have just about decided to move to the United States because the BCI (Border Cities Industries) plant, which they hoped to get, is going to be used as a bus garage.
The building is still there today, although it looks much bigger in the old photograph above. It’s always interesting to learn the history of what appears to be a very plain and ordinary building.
My step father said he worked there way back then it’s cool the way they turned it into a home there’s another small plant in the same area I think on Hickory that is red brick the last time I saw it they were building aluminum windows there I think
Very cool.
When we were kids in the 80s, my friends and I used to sit on the front porch of that place. I think they were doing something with glass or windows at the time. A man named Dave lived in the place. He said he was a Vietnam vet, but we wondered if he was just trying to frighten us, because he sometimes chased us off the porch. Some people said they saw Dave walking around with a gun inside the place. When we asked Dave, he said he was shooting rats.
