Repairs At The Paul Martin Building

I’ve had a few emails from readers lately asking about what is going on at the Paul Martin Federal Building on Ouellette.

Not to worry, it’s just a little repair work and replacement of the badly damaged limestone blocks. The building was built in 1932 as a collaboration between local architects Sheppard & Masson; John Trace & G.B. Colthurst.

The plan from what I understand will involve the removal of the blocks, and the replacement of damaged stones, as well as replacing the anchors that mount the blocks to the facade. There have been some incidents in other cities were the hangers have failed and blocks/concrete slabs have fallen into the street. After 77 years, I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry…

Also looks like the TD Bank across the street from the Paul Martin Building is finally stating to get enclosed…

  • Darn it! I thought they might be readying it for glorious stucco. The TD building well, I will wait for it to be finished but I amnot holding my breath on that thing.

  • Big surprise I heard today on the news, apparently tenants are moving out of the Paul Martin Building and the city doesn't want it anymore. Eddie says the city doesn't want it, and the tenants can move into his new stucco palace he's been planning. He was also quoted as saying the building is old.. yeah no shit. Better than all the new crap that's coming up or planned. If they tear this building down or someone doesn't step in to save it then I have no hope for this city.
