Foundry Update

A few submissions from our eastside correspondents today, as we check in on the demolition at the Ford Foundry.

The first two comes from Darren, who has been supplying IM.com with an elevated view since the beginning of the demolition.

A few more from our other eastern correspondent Cpike:

Cpike’s photos were taken on the 26th (Saturday).

Note the section that is left looks like a hut. A control room perhaps? Maybe one of the former employees can help us out here… You’ll note that you can see this “hut” in the last of Darren’s photos above.

It was receiving a steady stream of water… Obviously trying to keep something down…

Moments later the section was brought down…

… And work resumes clearing the site.

Darren noted that they make quick work of loading the steel onto trucks and taking it off site.

  • that first shot is SOOOOOOOO weird to look at!!!! so weird. i love all the brown roofing from the fall out LOL. ever look at the foundry on google earth? there's this huge brown circle you can see from MILES up!! i also think it's weird how close the church steeples on ottawa look.
geez......bye-bye world history. thanks to darren for following this till the end!

  • glad someone else took a photo when that came down the other day since i was too tired. they're working on tearing apart that hut that was taken down as i speak now.

  • Aaron - I noticed the brown stain surrounding the foundry on Google earth as well. Pretty disturbing stuff.

  • I believe that hut(and several other on the roof) were for air filters(that had to be changed ) for some of the ventilation equipment. As for the streaming water, I know there were asbestos issues in some areas on the roof, hopefully they removed it previously.

  • Just looked at google earth as well saw the brown stain as well pretty nasty makes you wonder how the lungs are for the people that worked there and for the people that live in the neighbourhood

  • When out-of-towners call windsor a sh*t hole, this is exactly what they're talking about. Why the hell did the foundry have to bite the dust in the first place? The building is structurally sound, it's an important architectural landmark in a city with too few landmarks, so why the hell didn't our civic leaders find another use for it? The next time anybody complains that Windsor is the armpit of Canada, don't get mad at them. Get mad at the elected officials who allowed this city to become an economic wasteland.

  • The "Hut" that you are referring to is #13 Eliectrical Sub Station for the Cleaning Room in the Foundry. The water stream was used for dust control only. All asbestos was properly removed by demo company.
