While driving down Fort Street one day, I noticed this large warehouse.
The faded paint on the facade reads “Detroit Showcase Company”. It was here that display showcases for various stores were made.
Here is a Sandborn Map from 1921. The 1897 Map didn’t show the company in this location.
By 1950 the building had been expanded, but the company was gone.
I’m trying to find out more information about this company. Apparently the owner was Petz and they designed Petz Bars which were used in storefront systems. I believe my storefront in St. Louis was made at this factory in 1926. I’m missing a few pieces; I wonder if I might be able to find more of their products at architectural salvage co.s in Detroit.
