A photo that appeared in a promotional booklet from 1929, shows the above with the caption: “Honeymoon Nest, Walkerville Tourist Camp”
I half looked for the location of this place of the years, but never come up with where it was actually located. I suppose it will remain a mystery for now.
Haha that is quite weird.
The Vernon city directory for 1920 shows one possible location in the Walkerville-Ford City area. The directory lists “summer cottages” on the river bank of Sandwich Street (now Riverside Drive E) just east of the Cadillac Street intersection. They are beside the Bell Ice House if anyone has a street map showing buildings. While names of residents or tenants are common in the Vernon’s street listings, no identification of owners is given for these cottages. But then “Walkerville Tourist Camp” doesn’t appear anywhere in the alphabetical listing section of the directory which includes Windsor and Sandwich as well.
