I seem to recall something similar a few years ago… now it sounds like once again the post office may be in jeopardy…
In case anyone is interested, I’m passing on the info below. Thanks to Linda for forwarding the information.

Yes Carole, that’s the one.
I jepordy of what? Thay don’t want to tear it down do they?!?!?!?!?!
Whoa….what was up with my spelling there LOL!
I was there a couple days ago, bought a box and some bubble wrap. While purchasing the items I asked the worker if she could weigh the goods I was planning on shipping. She weighed the items while being rather snippy with the remarks “Sure, make us weigh the products while you take your revenue elsewhere” (apparently the box and bubble wrap wasn’t enough). I explained I planned to ship via Canada Post, but wanted to purchase the postage online (because it’s slightly cheaper). She repeated her statement once again. I was irked by her response, and puzzled as to why it mattered so much that I purchase the postage at the post office… then it occurred to me there could be renewed talk of closing the post office. She wasn’t helping the cause however.
I’m sorry to hear that, Chris. I was in there myself not too long ago as it’s my neighbourhood post office and I loved the creaking floors and atmosphere of the place. I was helped by a middle aged gentleman who was quite pleasant, but there’s been other times at other post offices where the workers have been very snippy, so I suppose it’s just the luck of the draw.
As a building it really adds a lot of character to an often overlooked part of the city with its gorgeous fountain out front and beautiful cohesive architecture. I hope that if something does happen to it that it can be re-used into something interesting but sometimes hoping for something like adaptive re-use in this town – especially in the west end, is like shoveling water.
Even Canada Post doesn’t use its own Sandwich Post Office. If the Canada Post parcel truck can’t make a delivery because no one is home and a signature is required, the driver leaves a card to pick the package up at the Shoppers Drug at Huron Church and Tecumseh Road West instead of the neighborhood Sandwich station.
Chris I hear you on that. Canada Post has been shooting themselves in the foot with me of late too. Been getting the missed delivery notices in the mail the day after an attempt to deliver was made and the time said delivery was attempted was without a doubt a time when myself or my parents were at home without so much as a knock or doorbell ring. Same issue with a friend in Barrie at her college dorm with packages I’ve been sending her. I’ve given up complaining. The messages seem to go in a circle between departments and nothing gets done. I only keep mailing with them because they can’t touch the Browns and The Feds rates.
Would be a shame if something causes this building to come down and I hope it doesn’t happen. A new tennant would be nice though 😉
Does anyone have a photo of the upside down ice cream store they can share?
Many thanks in advance if you do
