I first profiled Kavanagh’s Tourist Camp, in March 2007.
I recently came across the postcard above, it was dated 1933.
It shows the building, prior to the new cafeteria shown in the post from 2007:
The garage in the back of the house in the photo above, still read “GAS”. I always figured they were using their garage to advertise, but this card shows that the garage was originally the gas office.
In the photo above (shot in 2007) you can see the little garage and the cafeteria building still stand.
Where on #3 is this house located ?
Anyone notice the peculiar spelling on the sign, “OLD CASYLE” Grocery?
John, it appears that one of the hanging lights is in front of the T, making it look like a Y. Otherwise it might have been the Ye Olde Casyle.

This house on Highway 3 was my Great Grandfathers. My name is Gary Patrick Kavanagh born in 1966 Detroit MI, my dad was Gary Francis Kavanagh born in 1942 Essex Ontario and he visited this home and worked on the farm behind it for many summers. He has since passed away back in 1985 from a massive heart attack at 43. My Grandfather was Aloysius (pronounced alowicous) Charles Kavanagh passed in 1979. My Grandpa Chuck as we all called him, grew up in this house. His Dad, my Great grandfather was named Albert Daniel Kavanagh died in 1969. As you can see they tried their luck at many different businesses. From Gas stations, Post Office, General Store, Tourist Camp store. Very cool to see these pictures when I can fill in the blanks for others. – Gary 2/9/10
