St. Rose of Lima

Located in Riverside just off Wyandotte St. at St. Rose, this church is one of Windsor’s newest designated structures.

The church, tossed aside like many historic buildings in Windsor by the Diocese of London, was designated by the City last year. The Diocese appealed the designation and there was going to be a hearing before the Conservation Review Board of Ontario November 26 & 27th.

For some reason the Diocese dropped their appeal in November prior to the hearing. Maybe it was the recent losses in Lakeshore where they fought tooth and nail for years against the designation of Churches in Stony Point and St. Joachim only to come up on the short end of the sitck, or maybe simply because Bishop Fabbro and his minions finally discovered a heart? (I doubt it).

More than likely they knew they would lose this battle too and decided to save a few dollars on legal bills.

Either way, another part of Windsor’s past is preserved for future generations.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see what tricks are up their sleeves with Assumption…
