Today’s photos come courtesy of regular reader Colin, who had a chance to vist John Campbell School prior to the interior demolition.

Wilfred Sykes
October 8, 2008
I came across this photo at a local antique store last week. There is nothing to ID the date by, but I would guesstimate late 1950’s – early 1960’s.
According to the Boatnerd Bible, she was built in 1949 by the American Shipbuilding Co. at Lorain, Ohio. At…
Pelton Tower
October 7, 2008
Grab an older map of Essex County, and in the area of Walker and Provincial, you will see a dot on the map named “Pelton”. Some comments the other day were asking about the peabody bridge. I don’t have much info about it, but here’s what I do have.
A postcard view, you can see the bridge to the right of the silos.
An aerial view from 1952
1981 – Note the Peabody building…

This citizen and other residents are very concerned about the state of the building, especially the back wall of…
Rollin' on the River
October 2, 2008
Regular IM reader and commenter DouglasM was asking about old photos of the Windsor Waterfront when it was still covered in rails. Doug used to live in the Detroit area, back when the waterfront on both sides was occupied with rails, and was the staging grounds and rail…
Assumption Church
October 1, 2008
IMO, Assumption is the most beautiful church in the city. Built in 1845 by the architect T. Elliott, the sanctuary and steeple were added in 1874. The church was one of the first batch of buildings designated in Windsor in 1978. From 1859-1869 Assumption served as the…
