i've always hoped our downtown could look like that now with decorative lights hanging overtop the streets. it adds so much.
Just as many cars as today. Only difference is the amount of stores and people. Go figure.
Wow! You mean Windsor actually had a downtown that was vibrant (of course I am being sarcastic). IT looked quite wonderful in the picture actually.
M.O.M. the difference being Devonshire Mall. However, people in this city are their own worst enemy. How many go shopping downtown in other cities? How many enjoy the experience? Yet, they don't support their own LOCAL stores. Instead they love to shop and eat at chain stores and restaurants and then wonder why they are so damn fat.
i miss those days and seeing the lights strung across the street and the big christmas tree at the foot of ouellette by the river. great to see the old palace sign there all aglow too. i forget what that red cross-like thing was though. can't remember what was there. so many shops back then. hated it when they took away parking on ouellette too. i wasn't born till 3 years after this was taken though.
Wow, I forgot what Windsor used to look like. I am always telling the "kids" at my office what it used to be like (and Detroit too). They just don't believe me. I especially remember the Birks store because my Granny used to take me there and also Smith's Dept. store. Love all the lights - although it is a little dated, it still looks wonderful and vibrant.
Darren, my eyes were drawn to that red cross thing as well, and it reminds me very much of the Lung Association symbol in their logo. Their office is still downtown at 647 Ouellette ave.
Who knows? It might happen! Horowitz is excited about downtown. Gord Henderson's column yesterday about the airport was positive. The potential exists. Let's hope something happens. After all they finally started the Walker Road underpass!
thanks john, my girlfriend reminded me about the lung association too.
king Eddie wishs downtown could be this good
Great picture with all the Christmas lights etc. I remember going downtown with my mom and downtown being decorated like that. Pretty much as in the words to that song "Silver Bells" -city sidewalks, busy sidewalks dressed in holiday style" - every time I hear that song I remember downtown Windsor like in this picture. From what everyone is saying on these pages, its not the case today.
