Election Results

Above is a postcard of Windsor’s “New” City Hall from the late 1950’s.

———————————————————————————————————–

Congratulations to all old, new and new again faces back in City Hall after last night’s municipal election.

In the Mayors “race” (and I use that term lightly).

Eddie Francis was returned by a landslide. Despite early promises Dr. Wonham turned out to be the biggest busts this city has seen in a long time. Either of my cats could have mounted a more inspired election campaign.

Ward 1:

Incumbent Dave Brister was returned, with Drew Dilkens picking up the vacancy left by Joyce Zuk.

Ward 2:

Both incumbents were re-elected in Ward 2.

Ward 3:

Despite a strong showing by Tony Blak, both well liked and respected incumbents were returned in the central ward.

Ward 4:

This one was the hot race in the city this year, plenty of mud slinging over on the near east side too… Bill Marra who lost the Mayors Race to Eddie Francis in 2003, was elected back to council, Dave Cassivi was soundly defeated. The voters in ward 4 clearly not happy with Cassivi’s performance.

Ward 5:

Over on the far east side a retirement left a vacancy on council. Incumbent Jo-Anne Gignac was easily returned, and Percy Hatfield, a long time CBC City Hall reporter who recently retired, was elected to fill the vacancy in that ward. If I lived in this ward, I would have voted for architect Bill Kachmaryk, just because he’s an architect. Kachmaryk designed among many other buildings – The Biology Building at the University of Windsor (1965), St. Paul Pumping Station on Riverside Dr. E. (1973) & The Teen Health Center on Ouellette Ave. (1992).

All in, all a dull night in municipal politics… Two new councilors to fill two vacancies, and one new old councilor unseating a one term incumbent… YAWN…
